BOSTON ROAD ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
This city has spent a lot of money on economic development for the downtown area, We all would like to see downtown economically thrive, but other areas of the city that have active business communities are being ignored. Most of the retail business in Springfield now happens in the Boston Road neighborhood. We should be working to retain the businesses that we currently have, and those businesses are on Boston Road.
The roads are filled with potholes, which damage the cars of people who do business on Boston Road. We also need more sidewalks and crosswalks, especially around the Eastfield Mall and the Haymarket Square shopping plaza. Children regularly are in that area, and there are no safe places for them to walk or cross the street.
We do have to work on bringing businesses downtown, but we shouldn’t put all of our eggs in one basket. While the city has been working on revitalizing downtown, the Boston Road area has been trying to survive on its own. It’s about time that they had the city’s help as well, and if elected, I’m going to make that a top priority.
